History of Pesticide in Myanmar
During late 1985, first wave chemicals such as DDT/Organochlorine has been banned from western world. Since then, the goods have been distributed among Southeast Asia countries included Myanmar.
1980s: Migration of first wave pesticides
In 1990, Government started noticing the side effects of DDT and Organochlorine. But due to lack of knowledge upon how dangerous the chemicals are, the production and import still goes on for years. Moreover, second wave pesticide classes were introduced into the local market in the coming years.
The legal banned of the first wave chemical just started at the end of 2000, however there are regions where the first wave chemicals are still popular and using nowadays.
Researchers found evidence of DDT exposure in 80% of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Although DDT was widely used in the USA from the 1940s to 1972 to kill the mosquitoes that cause malaria, it was banned by the Environmental Protection Agency in 1972 because of concerns over the risk to wildlife. Yet more or less eastern countries are sill using it.

In 2011, there were 2,074 malaria cases and 4 death but dripped to 52 cases with zero death in 2016 in Yangon.
Excessive Agrochemical Usage & Urgency for Safe Chemicals
